What is an AI agent for distributors?

It is software that does a distributor’s routine work in the ERP and the inbox. It builds the sales order from a purchase order, prices an RFQ, matches an invoice to a receipt or chases a vendor for a ship date. A copilot answers a rep’s question. An agent finishes the task, within permissions you set, and hands the exceptions to a person.

Brian Hopkins, chief operations officer of Distribution Strategy Group, drew the line in September: “An agent acting for a rep should do exactly what that rep can do, and nothing more” (Distribution Strategy Group, 22 September 2026). Every tool below sits on top of the ERP rather than replacing it. The wider picture, workflow by workflow, is in our guide to AI for distributors.

What changed for distributor AI in 2026?

Money arrived, and agents started to finish transactions instead of drafting them.

  • Funding. Canals announced a $35 million round led by Base10 Partners on 28 May 2026.

  • Agents that act. Proton.ai launched agentic order and quote entry on 21 July 2026 and SYSPRO its Torque agent platform on 2 September (Distribution Strategy Group, 15 September 2026). On 17 September Pro Platforms announced “MCP for ERP,” which lets an assistant submit a building products order straight into the ERP.

  • Distributors buying AI outright. Fastenal acquired Rampp.ai in June. Grainger announced on 26 August that it paid $210 million in cash for technology, IP and talent from Adroit Worldwide Media, and Builders FirstSource announced the day before that it led Digs’ $25.3 million Series A (Distribution Strategy Group, 22 September 2026).

  • Adoption gap. In Distribution Strategy Group’s survey of 233 distribution executives, 93% call AI a strategic priority and 16% run it across more than one function (9 September 2026).

What are the 12 best AI agents for wholesale distributors in 2026?

Ranked for a North American distributor with one ERP and 20 to 500 employees, by how much distributor work each tool covers and how much evidence the vendor publishes. Morsa comes last because it has no distribution customers yet.

1. Canals

Quick overview: Order entry, inquiry handling, takeoffs, AP, AR, statement reconciliation, and PO and receipt tracking for distributors, manufacturers and contractors. Canals “takes customer asks and turns them into quotes or orders, ready for your reps to approve and pass into your ERP in minutes.”

Best for: Electrical, plumbing, HVAC and industrial distributors that want several back-office workflows from one vendor.

Pros: Its 28 May 2026 funding release claims “over 100 distributors” and “over 8 million sales orders and $5 billion in payables.” In it, Paul Kennedy, CEO of customer DSG, says “Canals is the real deal.” Integrates with Eclipse, Prophet 21, Infor CSD and SX.e, NetSuite, Acumatica, Dynamics 365 and SAP S/4HANA; the ERP connection “takes only about an hour or two of your IT team’s time on average.”

Pricing: Quote only.

Best for: Distributors that want CRM, product data and ecommerce from their order entry vendor.

Pros: Publishes “15 minutes to under 60 seconds per quote.” In a proof of value at “one of North America’s largest industrial distributors,” list preparation time “dropped 75%.” Connectors for Prophet 21, Eclipse, Infor SX.e, SAP, NetSuite and AS/400. Best for: Distributors whose pain is purchasing and stock rather than order entry.

Pros: The purchasing agent will “Identify shortages, recommend order quantities, and prepare purchase orders and vendor emails for approval.” Pilots run “with a human in the loop,” and customer data is “not used to train models for other customers.”

12. Morsa

Quick overview: Morsa is the AI that operates the factory for you, and it runs the same daily operations work for wholesale distributors: order entry, quoting, purchasing and replenishment, supplier follow-up and customer updates, on top of the ERP you run.

Best for: Mid-market and enterprise distributors losing money in late supplier POs, hand-keyed orders and customer dates nobody tracks, who want one system running all three.

Pros: Any system with an API, a database, an export or an email trail can be connected; P21, Eclipse, Infor CSD, NetSuite, Business Central and Acumatica are examples, not a connector list. People keep working in email, Teams or WhatsApp. Cloud, private cloud or fully on-premise, including the AI models. In manufacturing, J4S, a 120-person glass plant, went live in two days with no new software.

Cons: Distribution customers: none yet (manufacturing live). Starts with a pilot on one live problem, not a self-serve trial; no prebuilt connector to a named distribution ERP; no public price list.

Pricing: A pilot on one live problem first, free when no implementation work is needed; otherwise a minimal implementation cost, refunded if the pilot shows no value. The fee is a share of the value created, agreed after the pilot.

Also considered. Three newer tools overlap with the ranked ones on orders and quotes. All are quote only. Comena, from Germany, claims “75 % less manual data entry, live in under two weeks.” Avent, out of Y Combinator in August 2025, “handles quoting, order entry, purchasing, invoicing and the work between them.” Ventura says it is “Live with distributors doing $10B+ in sales” and lists Agility, Prophet 21, Eclipse, BisTrack and Business Central.

Go-live is not payback. Hopkins calls AI order counts “vanity numbers” and tells distributors to track order cycle time, accuracy, margin adherence and the exception rate.

Where does Morsa fit among distributor AI agents?

Most tools here start at the customer’s order or RFQ. For many distributors the money leaks after the order is keyed. A vendor pushes a ship date, nobody connects it to the customer promise, and the customer finds out on the day. Morsa catches the moved date, finds every order it touches, chases the buyer and the supplier in the channels they already use, and closes the item on the receipt in the ERP.

Built and proven in manufacturing plants. Now onboarding our first distributors. Our proof so far comes from manufacturing. At J4S, a 120-person glass manufacturing plant, on-time completion of operational commitments went from about 30% to about 75% in the first four weeks. It went live in two days, with no new software, no migration and no training. Anil Kohli, J4S’s Production Head, said: “Our people don’t have to learn any new software. People just message the way they always have. Morsa coordinates all the messages in the background.” Read the J4S story and how our pricing works.

How did we choose these tools?

We applied four tests to vendor pages read on 24 September 2026. The product must do distributor work (orders, quotes, purchasing, invoices or follow-up), not only analytics. It must be sold today under the name listed. Every fact, price and claim comes from the vendor’s own site or press release, and funding appears only where the vendor publishes it. We then ranked by the distributor work each tool covers, the evidence it publishes, such as named distributor customers, and its ERP coverage for a North American distributor.

We left out AI built into one ERP, such as SYSPRO Torque, and pricing optimization suites, which are a separate category. Soff was dropped because its homepage returned a 404 error on 24 September 2026. The ERP layer is covered in distribution management software, and the order and quote tools in more depth in AI order entry for distributors and AI quoting for distributors.

What is the bottom line?

Pick Canals for order entry, AP and PO tracking from one vendor in North America. Pick Distro or BoltWise for faster quotes, Conexiom for high-volume capture across many ERPs, and Proton.ai if you also want CRM and ecommerce on the same data. Try Y Meadows free on 50 orders a month before you buy anything. Nearly every vendor is quote only, so ask each for the exception rate on your own orders during a pilot. For the problems after the order, late suppliers and customer promises, Get your free AI Profitability Plan. For plants, the equivalent list is the best AI agents for factory operations.

Best AI agents for factory operations in 2026

An AI agent for factory operations takes a defined action inside the plant's systems or with its people, within rules, rather than only answering questions. The best one is the agent that scores highest on seven things a plant can check on the vendor's own site: a published customer result with numbers, an outcome guarantee, a stated onboarding time, working inside the channels and systems the plant already uses, full on-premise deployment including the AI models, acting and verifying rather than recommending, and a stated pricing model. This page scores twelve agents on those seven and orders them by score. Morsa scores 7 of 7 and is first.

Best AI Software for Manufacturing in 2026

The best AI software for manufacturing in 2026 depends on the constraint. For a plant that wants AI to run the daily operations work on its existing systems, making more money in procurement, scheduling, supply chain, quality and coordination, Morsa fits best; Palantir and C3 AI suit enterprises with data teams, Augury suits machine uptime, LandingLens suits inspection, and each ERP's own AI suits plants committed to it.

Questions people ask

Questions people ask

Still have a question? A founder will answer.

01

What is the best AI for wholesale distributors?

For order entry, AP and PO tracking in one product, Canals, which claims over 100 distributors. For quoting, Distro for industrial and HVAC distributors and BoltWise for fastener distributors. Conexiom suits high-volume order capture across 40+ ERPs, and Y Meadows lets you start free on up to 50 orders a month.

02

What do AI agents for distributors do?

They read purchase orders, RFQs, invoices and vendor emails, build sales orders and quotes in the ERP, match invoices to receipts and chase suppliers for dates. A person approves exceptions and anything above the limits the distributor sets.

03

How much do AI agents for distributors cost?

Almost all are quote only. On 24 September 2026, Y Meadows was the only vendor here with a published free tier (up to 50 orders a month), and WizCommerce published a price only for its WizStudio image tool, from $249 a month. Morsa runs a pilot first and charges a share of the value created.

04

How long does it take to go live with an AI agent?

Vendors publish anywhere from under two weeks to two months. Comena says under two weeks, Ventura under three weeks, Distro 3 to 5 weeks, Conexiom a 30-day average, Turian four to six weeks and Lark one to two months.

05

Which AI agents work with Epicor Prophet 21?

Canals, Proton.ai, Conexiom, Distro, WizCommerce, BoltWise and Ventura all list Prophet 21 on their own sites. Confirm your version and whether the integration writes orders or only reads data.

06

Do AI agents replace the ERP?

No. Every tool in this guide reads from and writes to the existing ERP, which stays the record of orders, prices and receipts.

07

Does Morsa have distributor customers?

Not yet. Morsa is onboarding its first distributors. Its reference customer is J4S, a 120-person glass manufacturing plant that went live in two days with no new software.
