AI for Electrical Distributors (2026): What It Does and Who Sells It

AI for an electrical distributor reads the takeoffs, spec sheets, RFQs, manufacturer acknowledgments and contractor messages a branch already handles, then drafts the quote, builds the submittal, keys the order and keeps project ship dates current in the ERP. In 2026 the work that pays first is quoting and order entry, then chasing ship dates on project orders, where IDEA says promised dates move about three times per order.

Morsa publishes this guide and appears in it. Every vendor and association fact was read on the vendor’s or association’s own site on 12 October 2026, and vendor-reported numbers are labeled as theirs.

Quick answer

  • Quotes and takeoffs: Canals and Parspec turn material lists, takeoffs and cut sheets into quotes for a rep to approve.

  • Submittals and O&Ms: Parspec builds submittal packages; Rexel USA reports 52% time savings on submittal preparation (Parspec’s figures).

  • Ship dates on project orders: Canals reads acknowledgments, ASNs and packing slips and updates ship dates in the ERP. NAED’s ProjectNexus is building an industry feed for the same problem.

  • Contractor texting at the counter: Prokeep runs the text and email thread with contractors and field techs.

  • Morsa: built and proven in manufacturing, now onboarding its first distributors. It chases the date after the PO is placed and closes on the goods receipt.

What does AI actually do for an electrical distributor’s daily work?

It takes the typing and the chasing off the inside sales desk and the project manager. A contractor sends a takeoff, a marked-up fixture schedule or a photo of a panel label. AI matches each line to your SKUs and contract price and hands the rep a draft quote. Canals says it handles “handwritten note, takeoff, PDF, email, spreadsheet, voicemail” for inside, counter and outside sales.

On project business the work continues after the award. Parspec builds submittal and O&M packages from a catalog it puts at 3.2 million cut sheets across 4,000+ manufacturers. Once POs are placed, the slow part is knowing when the gear will actually ship. Canals reads “vendor PO acknowledgments, shipping notices, and packing slips” and flags any change from the PO. Prokeep handles the other side: contractors who text a photo of a part number or ask for a spec sheet from the job.

What AI should not do alone: set project pricing outside the matrix, approve a substitution on spec-sensitive gear, or promise a contractor a date nobody has confirmed.

What is eating the inside sales and purchasing team’s day?

Chasing dates, and retyping. NAED’s Digital Center of Excellence picked IDEA and Pull Logic to build ProjectNexus, an industry-owned answer to “Where’s my stuff?”, and IDEA’s project page states the problem in numbers. Parspec, writing on NAED’s blog, describes the same gap from the project manager’s chair: “The ERP may show the original requested date, while a manufacturer acknowledgment contains a revised promise date.”

Patrick Knight, president and CEO of IDEA, put it plainly in the announcement Electrical Trends reported on 1 June 2026: “Right now, tracking material across the electrical supply chain means phone calls, emails, and spreadsheet chasing.”

The retyping shows up in WizCommerce’s numbers, published on NAED’s blog: across 2,000+ reps in 200+ live deployments, it measured the workday at 30% selling, 30% retrieval and 40% admin. These are a vendor’s figures.

Which AI vendors serve electrical distributors?

The table lists vendors that show electrical work on their own sites. Fields are the same for each, Morsa included. Canals has an electrical vertical page and an Eclipse and Prophet 21 connection. Parspec is the specialist for project quoting and submittals, with Border States and Rexel USA on its homepage. Prokeep runs the contractor text thread. WizCommerce publishes electrical results on NAED’s blog, though its named customers sit outside electrical. Morsa has no distributor customer yet and is listed last for that reason. Read the proof column closely: most figures are the vendor’s own, chosen by the vendor, and the useful test is whether a distributor like yours will take a reference call. Pricing is almost never public in this category; only Prokeep says how it charges (per branch).

Canals

  • Best for: Order entry, AP and PO tracking at Eclipse and P21 shops

  • What it automates: Quotes and orders from any format, takeoffs, AP, cash application, PO-to-receipt tracking

  • ERPs it lists: Epicor Eclipse, Epicor Prophet 21, Infor CSD, Infor SX.e, Infor M3, Acumatica, Dynamics 365, NetSuite, SAP S/4HANA

  • Pricing: Quote only (no public price)

  • Published electrical proof: Electrical vertical page; Turtle “increases hit rates by 2.8X” (Canals)

  • Published electrical proof: Unnamed Canadian wire and cable distributor on P21: 15% higher average order value (WizCommerce on NAED blog)

  • Distribution customers: Howard Elliott Collection (home decor); electrical customers unnamed

Morsa

  • Best for: Supplier and PO follow-up after the order is placed, across the channels the team already uses (email, chat, phone and others)

  • What it automates: Chases manufacturers and reps on open POs, updates dates, escalates before the job date, answers “where is my order”

  • ERPs it lists: SAP Business One, Dynamics 365 (incl. Business Central), NetSuite, Odoo, Zoho, QuickBooks and others; Eclipse and P21 by API, database, export or email trail

  • Pricing: Pilot first; then a share of measured value; no public price

  • Published electrical proof: None yet

  • Distribution customers: None yet (manufacturing live)

Which ERPs do electrical distributors run, and how does AI connect?

Two Epicor systems appear in every connector list above. Epicor calls Eclipse “designed specifically for electrical, plumbing, HVAC and PVF wholesale distributors,” and Epicor is an NAED affiliate. WizCommerce’s NAED post addresses distributors “running Epicor Prophet 21, Eclipse or other ERPs,” and Infor’s CloudSuite Distribution page lists electrical among the 4,000+ distribution companies it says run on Infor.

That is why connector lists matter. Canals, Parspec, Prokeep and WizCommerce all name Eclipse and Prophet 21. Neither is on Morsa’s published integration list. It connects to them the way it connects any system: through an API, the database, a scheduled file export, or the email trail of acknowledgments and confirmations the buyers already receive. Its listed integrations are SAP Business One, SAP Ariba, Microsoft Dynamics 365 including Business Central, Oracle NetSuite, Odoo, Zoho, QuickBooks, Tally, Excel, Google Sheets and Drive, Gmail, Outlook, Teams, Slack, WhatsApp, WeChat and phone calls. Ask any vendor to show a write-back into your own ERP instance, not a logo.

Where does Morsa fit for an electrical distributor?

Morsa is built and proven in manufacturing, now onboarding our first distributors. Its job is the 40% problem: the date after the PO goes out.

How the loop would run on a project order (an illustration, not a customer result): a manufacturer’s acknowledgment lands in a buyer’s Outlook with switchgear moved two weeks out. Morsa reads it, finds the sales order and contractor job date it affects, and tells the owner in the channel the team already uses. It chases the rep and factory for a firm date, escalates to the branch manager before the job date slips, and closes only when the goods receipt posts in the ERP.

The proof is from a factory. At J4S, a 120-person glass plant, on-time completion of operational commitments rose from about 30% to about 75% in four weeks across about 900 commitments, two days from first connection to live actions.

When Morsa is the wrong choice: you need a submittal tool or cut-sheet library (look at Parspec), you want a vendor with electrical distributor references today (Canals), your main gap is the contractor text thread (Prokeep), or you need a native Eclipse connector on day one.

What should you ask any AI vendor before you sign?

  1. Which electrical distributors run this in production, and can I call one?

  2. Do you write back to my Eclipse or Prophet 21 instance, or only read from it?

  3. When a manufacturer moves a ship date, how do I see it, and who gets told?

  4. What does the AI do on its own, and what waits for a person to approve?

  5. How do you handle substitutions on spec-sensitive gear?

  6. What is the price after the pilot, and is it per user, per branch or per outcome?

  7. What happens to my pricing and customer data, and is it used to train shared models?

  8. Which security audits can you show? (Canals and Parspec state SOC 2 Type II.)

AI for Distributors: Use Cases, Limits and Where to Start

AI for distributors is software that reads the orders, RFQs, supplier emails and ERP records a wholesale distributor already handles, then does the typing, matching and chasing between them. In 2026 it works best on order entry, quoting, accounts payable and purchase order follow-up, and it is weakest wherever it would set price, credit or substitutions without a fixed rule behind it.

AI for HVACR Distributors (2026): What It Does and Who Sells It

AI for an HVACR distributor answers the counter and phone faster, turns contractor texts, RFQs and plan-and-spec documents into quotes, sets stock for a seasonal business and follows up on open supplier orders. In 2026 the proven uses are quoting and contractor messaging, with inventory AI close behind. Most vendors sell one of these jobs; check that a vendor has HVAC distributors live, not just HVAC on a menu.

01

What does AI do for an electrical distributor?

It reads the takeoffs, spec sheets, RFQs, manufacturer acknowledgments and contractor messages a branch already handles, then drafts the quote, builds the submittal, keys the order and keeps project ship dates current in the ERP. In 2026 the work that pays first is quoting and order entry, then chasing ship dates on project orders, where IDEA says promised dates move about three times per order.

02

Which AI vendors serve electrical distributors?

Canals for order entry, AP and PO tracking at Eclipse and Prophet 21 shops, with an electrical vertical page. Parspec for project quoting and submittals, with Border States and Rexel USA on its homepage. Prokeep for contractor texting at the counter. WizCommerce for a rep copilot and AI order entry, though its named customers sit outside electrical. Morsa chases dates after the PO is placed but has no distributor customer yet.

03

How much time do electrical distributors spend chasing ship dates?

IDEA's ProjectNexus page puts it at 40% of inside-sales and project staff time, with promised ship dates moving about three times per order and 18 or more portal logins per project. Patrick Knight, president and CEO of IDEA: "Right now, tracking material across the electrical supply chain means phone calls, emails, and spreadsheet chasing." NAED picked IDEA and Pull Logic to build ProjectNexus as an industry answer to "Where's my stuff?"

04

Does AI for electrical distributors work with Eclipse and Prophet 21?

Canals, Parspec, Prokeep and WizCommerce all name Epicor Eclipse and Prophet 21 in their connector lists. Neither is on Morsa's published integration list; Morsa connects to them through an API, the database, a scheduled file export, or the email trail of acknowledgments the buyers already receive. Whichever vendor you consider, ask it to show a write-back into your own ERP instance, not a logo.

05

What should AI not do on its own at an electrical distributor?

It should not set project pricing outside the matrix, approve a substitution on spec-sensitive gear, or promise a contractor a date nobody has confirmed. Before you sign, ask every vendor what its AI does on its own and what waits for a person to approve, and how it handles substitutions on spec-sensitive gear.

06

What should an electrical distributor ask an AI vendor before signing?

Which electrical distributors run it in production, and whether you can call one. Whether it writes back to your Eclipse or Prophet 21 instance or only reads from it. How you see a manufacturer's ship-date change, and who gets told. What the price is after the pilot. Whether your pricing and customer data trains shared models, and which security audits it can show; Canals and Parspec state SOC 2 Type II.
