Shipping label template for freight and pallets
Fill in this free shipping label template and it makes a label for every piece: ship to and from, the PO and PRO numbers, piece 1 of N, handling marks and an optional Code 128 barcode. Download a 4 x 6 in thermal PDF, print on letter paper or Avery 5126 half sheets, or get an editable Word file, and nothing is uploaded. It does not buy postage: for UPS, FedEx or USPS parcel labels, use the carrier’s own site.

What to put on a freight label
Ship to in large type, with a dock or attention line if the receiver has several doors.
PO number, so the receiver can match the freight to the order without opening it.
PRO number, so the carrier’s terminal can match each piece to the bill of lading.
Piece 1 of N, so the driver and the receiver can count every piece against the BOL.
Handling marks such as Do not stack or This side up, when the freight needs them.
The label maker numbers the pieces for you: enter 12 pieces and you get 12 labels, 1 of 12 through 12 of 12.
Blank 4 x 6 and letter shipping label templates
To fill labels in by hand, use “Blank 4 x 6 (PDF)” or “Blank letter (PDF)” at the top of the tool: an empty label with the same boxes, write-in lines for the addresses and a piece ____ of ____ line. To type into a template instead, “Blank 4 x 6 (Word)” gives the same label as an editable .docx. Add your logo under From first and it goes on the blanks too, and on every label you fill in.
Word and label sheets
Word (.docx). After you fill in the form, “Word (.docx)” downloads every label as editable text, laid out like the PDF for the paper you picked: 4 x 6, letter, 2 per letter sheet or Avery 5126 half sheets. Word has no Code 128 barcode, so use the PDF when the label needs one.
Avery 5126 half sheets. Choose “Avery 5126 half sheet” to print on Avery’s 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 in shipping labels, two per letter sheet (Avery lists 8126 and 5912 among the sheets that share the template). Each label is turned to fill its half.
4 x 6 on letter paper. “2 per letter sheet” prints two true-size 4 x 6 in labels on plain paper to cut out.
Printing on a 4 x 6 thermal printer
Choose “4 x 6 thermal” above. The PDF and the print layout are exactly 4 x 6 inches, one label per page.
In the print dialog, pick your label printer and the 4 x 6 in (or 100 x 150 mm) paper size.
Set the scale to 100% or Actual size, and turn off headers and footers.
Print one label first and scan the barcode before you print the rest.
No label printer? “2 per letter sheet” prints two true-size 4 x 6 labels on plain letter paper to cut out, and “Letter” prints one large label per page for a pallet.
Pallet labels
“Letter” prints one large label per page for a pallet. For a retailer’s SSCC pallet label, use the SSCC label generator.
About the barcode
The barcode is Code 128, the general-purpose symbology warehouse scanners read. It can encode the PRO, PO or BOL number, or any other text made of plain letters, numbers and keyboard symbols. The value also prints underneath in plain text, which the NMFC rules ask for whenever a barcode carries required information. This is not a GS1-128 SSCC label: if a retailer’s routing guide asks for SSCC pallet labels, use a GS1 company prefix and your WMS or label software.
Common questions
Can I make my own shipping label?
Yes, for freight, cartons and pallets: this template makes the shipper’s own labels with the ship-to, PO, PRO and piece count. A parcel label with postage has to come from the carrier’s account.
How can I make a shipping label for free?
Fill in the form above and download the PDF. There is no sign-up and no daily limit, and the labels print on a 4 x 6 thermal printer or on plain letter paper.
How do I make a shipping label in Word?
Fill in the form above and press “Word (.docx)”: you get the labels as an editable Word file, laid out for the paper you picked, from a 4 x 6 thermal printer to Avery 5126 half sheets. For an empty one, use “Blank 4 x 6 (Word)”. The Word file has no barcode; the PDF does.
Is this a UPS or FedEx label?
No. It makes the shipper’s own labels for freight, cartons and pallets. A parcel label with postage comes from the carrier’s account.
Do I need a bill of lading too?
For LTL and truckload, yes. The bill of lading generator uses the same PO and PRO numbers.
WHERE MORSA FITS
The paperwork is ready. Is the order?
Shipments slip when supplier purchase orders slip. Morsa chases open POs with your suppliers, catches the late ones before they hold up a load, and keeps the delivery dates you give customers honest. It works in email, Teams, WhatsApp or whatever you already run on.
